Record Origin gives Nine the week

Ratings: State of Origin breaks the record books and is now the biggest audience of 2014.

2014-06-22_1733Last week’s State of Origin match is now the highest-rated game since OzTAM began in 2001.

It was also the biggest audience of 2014 so far.

2,578,000m viewers watched the State of Origin match on Nine, including a whopping 1.2m in Sydney alone. But with another 121,000 on GEM in Perth it takes the total to a massive 2,699,000 -with rounded out at 2.7m metro viewers.

No surprises that last week belonged to Nine, but Seven put in a very strong effort and TEN was again in front of the ABC.

If the World Cup has given SBS some impressive numbers, none of it was in primetime where it was needed.

Elsewhere for Nine The Voice was 1.55m on Sunday, Nine News Sunday was 1.43m and 60 Minutes was 1.21m.

House Rules hit 1.57m on Sunday for Seven with Seven News Sunday at 1.56m, and Sunday Night at 1.21m.

Thursday’s MasterChef (1.01m) was best for TEN. NCIS was 866,000 and Offspring was 803,000.

Grand Designs (943,000) topped ABC1 then The Checkout (875,000) and ABC News (Sun: 812,000).

FIFA World Cup Eng. v Italy (836,000) was best for SBS then Aus. v Ned. (625,000) and Ivory Coast v Japan (478,000).

Nine also took the key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven won Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Nine took Sunday and Wednesday. ABC bettered TEN on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

Seven ranked first in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Nine came home in Sydney and Brisbane.

  1. If it wasn’t for Origin, nine would have been way behind. Seven did exceptionally well to be so close, it shows they know what most viewers are looking for these days.
