The Seven in-house production as seen audiences improve on last year’s slower start, up 21 per cent year-on-year and hitting 1.66m metro viewers. “Reveal” episodes have even pipped The Voice in Overnight data.

Applications are now open for 2015 contestants at yahoo7.com.au/houserules with the winner set to have their entire mortgage paid off.

Amongst the rules are the following:

To be eligible you must own your own home, and it must be your primary place of residence. Team members must have a pre-existing relationship. Eg. Friends, relatives, partners, etc.

Both team members must be over 18 years of age on the day of application.

Both team members must be an Australian citizen or have been a permanent resident for at least 2 years to participate.

OPTIONAL: If possible include BEFORE and AFTER floor plans of your home ie. A drawing or actual floor plan of the existing lay-out plus a second drawing or floor plan of how you would like to see it laid out, preferably within the home’s existing footprint (ie external wall area). The plans do not have to be professionally drawn, they can be hand drawn.

If you are successful in applying for this opportunity you MUST be able to commit to a filming period of up to 3-4 months.

  3. @Poida, You have to start with the rundown house. There is no point having a renovation on a house that most people would think is fine anyway. Not all of the houses have been unlivable. The Sydney, Melbourne and Townsville houses were OK but needed a refresh.

    It would be a marketing disaster is Channel 7 were seen to be renovating the beach house of a wealthy couple. The show would flop. It is similar to a Herald Sun win-a-house promotion about 15 years ago where the winner was a person with a million dollar house in Brighton who won a Jennings house which they built on their holiday block near the Geelong surf coast. After weeks of pre-publicity, the winner was announced in a tiny 2 paragraph article!!

  4. Problem with HR is they have to combine contestants that viewers will engage with that also have some renovating skills, a derelict house, and a tear jerker back story. Hence the working class tone of the show.

  5. is it a renewal or just a casting call? with 7 they are never one in the same. not that there is any doubt that it will be renewed.

    I think the casting is pretty weak this year, there are no standout or memorable personalities. I think the show would be much better if it was cast more like MKR and TAR.
