2014-06-02_1636South Australian Media Awards were presented over the weekend hosted by Seven’s Amelia Mulcahy and Nine’s Will McDonald at the National Wine Centre.

In the television awards Mark Mooney (pictured) was awarded Best TV Broadcaster for the second year in a row, for three stories, including an exclusive look at SAHMRI, a Beverley house fire and an exclusive on the school sex scandals.

Mike Smithson won ‘Best TV News Report’ for the second consecutive year for a report on the closure of Holden. He was the only reporter at Elizabeth when workers were told of their fate.

Seven Adelaide News Director Terry Plane said: “These awards are terrific personal accolades for Mark and Mike, and also a reinforcement of Seven News’ reputation as the number one news-breaking television news service in Adelaide. We’re proud of our reporters and our work, and grateful to viewers who’ve recognised our efforts over many years.”

Meanwhile former Nine presenter Keith Conlan was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his contribution to journalism over five decades.

Mediaweek says the judges noted: “Once he was known as Mr South Australia… earned from his Postcards days – the days of the weekly Channel 9 television program which explored almost everywhere and everyone in South Australia for 16 seasons and some 600 shows… Keith (was) a founder producer manager of the University Radio station 5UV (followed by) years with ABC radio as an 891 broadcaster and as a TV news presenter. He hosted State Affair on Channel 7. He was top dog on commercial radio with 5AA and up until his retirement in 2013.”

  1. I don’t begrudge Mr Conlon’s Hall of Fame honour.
Note, however, the pres release which says he was “top dog on commercial radio”until his retirement in 2013.

That’s because his station did not win a single survey in his breakfast timeslot. The ABC won seven of eight, a commercial FM station won the other.
