Abbi Jacobson & Ilana Glazer star as two friends who dive head first into the depths of life in New York.

2014-06-30_1141Later this month Foxtel premieres new US comedy series Broad City starring Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer as two 20-something best friends who dive head first into the depths of life in New York.

Co-produced by Amy Poehler, this launched in January in the US and has been renewed for a second season.

Enter Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer – both the creators and main actors – who contrast and complement each other so perfectly, it’s no wonder they are more obsessed with themselves than they are with boys. Abbi, a cleaner at a pretentious gym, is the more realistic and responsible character who is susceptible to the mischievous influences of her best friend. Ilana, who displays no signs of shame as she leaves work for prolonged periods of time, is the pot smoking, uninhibited and more sexually liberated of the pair.

Gaining popularity as a video web series from 2009, Comedy Central has now brought Broad City to television with the help of US comedy genius and series’ executive producer, Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live, Arrested Development), who also makes a cameo in the show.

Broad City features a guest appearance from Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live) and introduces John Gemberling, Arturo Castro and Stephen Schneider as cast regulars, joined by comedian Hannibal Buress (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, Neighbors).

Join in the shenanigans encompassing Abbi and Ilana’s friendship, as they spontaneously drum in Union Square, find quick moneymaking schemes on Craigslist, endure cringe-worthy situations with a roommate’s freeloading boyfriend who never leaves, all with ‘Bed, Bath and Beyond’ coupons in their pockets rather than cash.

The show has already received rave reviews from NY Times, Time Out New York, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and many more.

Wednesdays from July 23 at 8.30pm on Comedy.
