2014-07-18_1649Nat Geo Wild will broadcast Wild Australia, a 4 part series on Australia.

Filmed over three years across the country, the series captures four environments and the creatures that inhabit them.

Narrated by Damon Herriman (Justified, Love My Way, INXS: Never Tear Us Apart), it explores Australian animals as they soar, swim and stalk through oceans, deserts and rainforests.

Episode One: “Desert of the Red Kangaroo”
Their kingdom is the desert: in the heart of Australia lives the largest marsupial on earth, the red kangaroo. Months of drought, blistering heat and a few patches of dry grass – to live here you need to have your wits about you. With muscle, the ‘red giants’ hop through the Outback on their strong rear legs – in fact an extremely energy-saving method of moving in the desert.

Just as energy efficient are the honeypot ants: these ants are gorged with nectar by their fellow worker ants, before hanging down from the ceiling of the anthill to act as supply honeypots to be tapped during dry spells. Even budgerigars are experts of adaption to desert life: the bright green mini-parrots gather in giant flocks at the few watering holes, where birds of prey lie in wait and a life-or-death struggle ensues…
