Margaret without David?

If David Stratton decides to finish on At the Movies, will we bid farewell to Margaret Pomeranz too?

2014-02-12_1106There is speculation once again that At the Movies duo Margaret & David may finish up as a TV team, with rumours that David Stratton as told the ABC that he will not return next year.

Sunday Telegraph notes it isn’t clear if Margaret Pomeranz would also finish up.

The beloved duo have been reviewing together on Australian television for 28 years. A 5 star performance in itself.

The veteran critic has been the subject of talk about winding back his commitments for some time. Both have been enjoying a mid year break, replaced by Judith Lucy and Jason Di Rosso, with Stratton enjoying an ocean cruise.

ABC has not confirmed any change.

Both Stratton & Pomeranz return this Tuesday night at 10pm.

  1. Nooo !
Margs and David are an institution – been around so long that they’re part of the furniture.
But understand why they may be looking forward to a well earned break.

Agree with @ReginaG about Judith’s droll delivery.
    Love it !
Like others , not so much a fan of pretentious “wine- snob like guy.”

  2. I enjoyed Judith’s droll delivery – and I found her reviews to be relatable, but Jason, errr – not so much. I’d happily tune in each to watch her but think she might be better paired with someone who provides more contrast.

  3. The show should definitely continue, but with 2 new, much younger hosts, but not the 2 who took over for 1 month.

Or they could alternate between 2 hosts who do it for 6 months of the year and another 2, who do it after them.

Margaret and David have had an excellent run and it’s fair enough, if they choose to retire.

  4. They will be missed if they end the show.

For the love of god though, don’t replace them with Judith Lucy and that other guy.

She’s funny as a comedian but annoying as hell with her delivery. As a reviewer she is ok….

The other guy is not a good reviewer and has a smug erudite nature to the way he approaches films and discusses them.

  5. Noooooooooo!!!!!

I can’t imagine the TV landscape without David and Margaret; they’ve been reviewing my entire adult life. Even though I gave up going to the movies years ago, I still tune in weekly for a D&M session.

  6. I found Judith Lucy to be completely inept at reading the autocue convincingly in her reviews, and found it strange that she was trying to come across as serious when she is really only known for that uber-sarcastic “comedy” of hers.
If Stratton does go it would be better if Pomeranz went too.
