MasterChef beats X Factor, The Voice: Kids.

Ratings: Two singing shows cannibalise each other, allowing the cooking show to win its timeslot.

2014-07-24_1006Two singing shows going head to head proved to be good news for the cooking show.

Last night MasterChef Australia (1.13m) beat The X Factor (1.08m) and The Voice: Kids (806,000) -whether the low figure for the latter is due to fatigue or late scheduling isn’t yet clear. But with Offspring also topping 900,000 TEN had one of its best nights of the year.

  1. Back to basics with Masterchef…….proved to be what viewers wanted…..we did try and tell them.
You can do a genre too much like the lesson was learnt with Masterchef junior.

  2. What’s the bet that with the decline of singing shows 10 re-commission Idol. As much as I love the network for the most part they appear clueless.

  3. It’s interesting. As a foodie, I love MasterChef and many of the other cooking shows (especially Sundays on 7TWO. I’m not a fan of MKR, it seems too contrived.
On most of my foodie forums, MC AUS is widely regarded as the best version of the franchise, worldwide.

  4. You know what I am happy that Masterchef beat both singing shows. I hope it tells every TV network that Singing Competitions are dying out and its almost time to come up with something new. Enough with the Singing shows. We dont need that many singers.

  5. re: The Voice Kids – Delta tweeted last night “Tune in from 6.30pm! Even the judges are confused with scheduling!

Low figure would be combination of fatigue and airing on a different night that many would not have been prepared for…

  6. Just goes to show that you don’t tamper with a winning recipe. MC went back to what the show was all about and the results are in. Lesson learnt.

  7. I think with The Bachelor sensibly just airing on a Wed/Thu it will do ok. The mistake they made last year was trying to prime time it on Sun/Mon/Tue. Ch7 and 9 are soft on wed/thu which does leave a decent spot. However ch10 will suffer sun-tue when mc ends with not a great lot to offer…

  8. In desperation I went over to SBS for Life In Brazil and 24 Hours In Emergency. Hate reality tv with a passion and having 3 main channels taken up with it at the same time is just too much.

  9. Script writers for Offspring are simply brilliant.

TEN can’t let this gem slip between its fingers.

And somewhere closer to the million viewers for the next ep and maybe over the million for the finale.

  10. I’m saddened by the fact that all the momentum TEN has built up will likely be to no avail once MC finishes. You can’t just have the bachelor guys!
