  1. “Take out false drama and theatrics and viewers will watch for the real subject matter.”- Wolfieboy

My husband would watch The Block if it was more about the renovations and less about the soap opera.

  2. once-upon-a-time

Congratulations to Network Ten via the winning formula of this series of MC, seems many like myself hope that there are lessons learned by all concerned, especially regarding ‘unreality shows’.

But we may have to wait for yet another ‘ The Block ‘ series, probably later ‘this year???’, for Network Nine to get the message, because after watching so far, it appears that the B/S format has indeed changed, but sadly because, where not only has all the B/S been retained, it seems that it has even gotten worse, and it seems that it will remain entrenched for the entire series, and the ‘ Asbestos Interruption Fiasco’ in the very first week, seems to be the confirming example, along with promos seemingly displaying scant regard for ‘ Work Cover and Dust Diseases Regulations’

Network Nine surely you must eventually learn that it is a very fine line between ‘ persevered…

  3. Network Ten and Masterchef are back in a big way. I never thought it would get higher than 1.5m and to achieve 1.7m is an amazing feat. Brent was a deserving winner and i loved the fact this year on Masterchef, it was about friendship, courage, and continuous growth of the contestants, no bitching and rudeness. If masterchef can make the next series bigger and better than this one, they are guaranteed for success in 2015. This proves Network ten are not a dying flagship channel, and now it’s time to improve the ratings even further with new, enticing, no-bitching/arrogant programs. Congratulations!

  4. Beckala
“Block is not entertaining so far. Not sure if it’s just me – anybody else finding it less appealing this year?”

    No, it’s not just you.
Early days yet but so far, so boring.
Not liking any of the contestants much, especially the brothers.
They’re coming across as really annoying , try hard w*nkers so far.
Fear they will only become more irritating as the show progresses.

  5. Reading through all the comments on this thread I can see that many people are like my wife and I and don’t like drama in reality shows, just for the sake of it.

Networks must realise that what worked in the past, will not necessarily work in the future.

Running some series more than once per year, again is a recipe` for failure as well as is making a kids version and then shifting the viewing time into an adult time slot. Kids have to go to school on Monday’s Nine – wake up be4 the show dies. One of the few shows we watch on Nine 🙁

Seven chickened out last Monday and this Monday with XFactor due to finals. Don’t they know people record as well these days?

Some silly programming mistakes happening right now imho.

  6. M/Chef proved that viewers want it to be abut the subject e.g. cooking. Take out false drama and theatrics and viewers will watch for the real subject matter. Congratulations Ten and Shine for making M/Chef great once again. The ratings figures in our new digital multi-channel environment are excellent to say the least for such a long running pgm.

Watched M/Chef, then Commonwealth Games until late at night.
    Recorded XFactor 🙂

  7. I watched a bit of The Block too, and it was like I was watching Big Brother or some The Block special that just revolves around their lives. Boring

  8. Woohoo as well.

Now for the long hard slog again. The Bachelor is rubbish TV and Offspring is nearly done. Hopefully Wonderland has reinvented itself.

  9. @Beckala I agree, The Block seems very slow and drawn out this season. Haven’t found an interesting contestant, and we’ve seen more pieces to camera about the most random topics than any actual renovating! #bored

  10. Caveat – I’m not a fan of MC, so it would never have been a viewing option for me last night…

I was watching The Block last night and to be honest I got bored. I’m normally quite a fan but just found myself looking at my ipad, reading the newspaper, fiddling with my magazines – ended up watching the recording of X Factor from Sunday night. The Block is just not grabbing me so far. And I’m normally an “easy get” – I’m a teacher so when I’m home my taste is pretty trashy – I don’t want to think, I want to be entertained. Block is not entertaining so far. Not sure if it’s just me – anybody else finding it less appealing this year?

  11. bettestreep2008

I’ve slagged off Ten quite a lot over the past few years – but I gotta give credit when it’s due.

Well done to MCA for those fantastic ratings.

I was hoping for 1.5m – but these figures blew me away.

And for a show that was over 2 hours long!

Thank goodness there is room for a reality tv show that doesn’t feature bitching, hissy fits, backstabbing, negative racial stereotypes and constant plugs for hardware stores. We all know which shows I am referring to.

The MCA producers obviously went back to the drawing board after last years very gimmicky series and the rewards have flowed in truckloads.

And best of all – the better person won!

  12. Strong finish for Masterchef and good for TEN.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the network now – especially when the Commonwealth Games end.

  13. Oh wow, that’s fantastic for TEN. They should really be applauded for the turnaround of MCA.
I guess Seven was right in rescheduling X Factor.

  14. Great news for 10, bad news for 9, third yet again, not much above ABC. Think that people are over The Block, having 2 series in 1 year as with 2 series of the Voice and Voice kids. If ratings don’t improve 9 will have to re think everything.

  15. Congratulations Ten ! Congratulations to Brent on winning Masterchef, I was very surprised that he won over the very obvious judges favourite Laura .
