More hints at which character will die in The Simpsons…

Warning. Don't click if you don't want a dirty big clue.

the-simpsons-death .jpgPOTENTIAL SPOILERS: In case you’ve forgotten, a key character on The Simpsons is about to expire.

As previously reported the next season premiere (September 28 in the US) will kill off a long-running character, although they could still re-appear in Halloween episodes or flashbacks and dream sequences.

Executive producers Al Jean and Matt Selman are already on the record as saying, “The character that dies is portrayed by an actor who won an Emmy for playing that character. People who reported on it then reported we were killing an ‘iconic’ character; I’d like to say it’s a great character, but I never used the word ‘iconic.’ It’s a terrific character and it [happens in] our premiere this coming year.”

This week at the Television Critics Association summer press tour Al Jean told journos, “It turned out bigger than we thought it was going to be,” he said.

“It’s not going to be this blood bath where they all get murdered.”

Jean said clues to the character’s demise have been “obvious” before adding, “It’s called ‘A Clown in the Dumps.'”

Yikes.

For the record Dan Castellaneta has previously won an Emmy for The Simpsons for his “various characters” including Krusty the Clown.

But so has Kelsey Grammer for voicing Sideshow Bob, who originally as Krusty’s non-speaking sidekick on his TV show. Since then he’s largely appeared as a criminal mastermind and enemy of Bart.

But Jean has also noted the character has appeared in “more than one episode” and that the death is very emotional.

So throw into the mix Rabbi Krustofski, Krusty’s father voiced by actor Jackie Mason, who won an Emmy for “Like Father, Like Clown” in 1992.

With the title “A Clown in the Dumps” it sounds like someone has a lot to get emotional over.

Tick.

  1. Please not Krusty, please not Krusty…

I’d, reluctantly, vote Duffman off but it sounds like it’s a clown-related death so that seems unlikely. I’d say Sideshow Bob is the most likely, sad but survivable I guess.

Losing Edna Krabappel was a blow. I fail to see why they need to deliberately kill off anyone as they seem to be dying on their own at a reasonable rate.

  2. Sounds like they made a PR announcement promoting the S26 kick off and it got out of hand because of the deaths of Maude Flanders and Edna Krabappel in the past (though they were because of unavailability of the actors).

Rabbi Krustofski. “Long serving” and “great” but not “iconic” (which Krusty of Sideshow Bob are). The sad clown will be Krusty.

  3. Interesting one of the guest voices this season will be David Hyde Pierce, who was Niles in Frasier and has twice before appeared in The Simpsons as Sideshow Bobs brother.

  4. “Like Father, Like Clown” was made well before 2002. From memory that’s an episode from Season 3, which would have been made closer to 1992.

  5. It’s got to be Sideshow Bob.
He’s only been in one episode in the last few seasons and they’ve run out of ideas for him to try and kill Bart.
His last few appearances have either been him helping the Simpsons or them helping him.
