Multichannels have the ratings edge

Ratings: Primary channels were close, but multichannels give Seven the ratings week over Nine.

2014-07-06_2338In a nutshell, Seven won the ratings week over Nine once again.

Network:
Seven: 31.0
Nine: 28.8
TEN: 18.6
ABC: 17.3
SBS: 4.3

House Rules topped Seven’s week at up to 1.52m viewers on Wednesday. Other Seven brands were Seven News (Sun: 1.39m), Winners and Losers (941,000) and Home and Away (898,000).

The Voice: Kids topped the week at 1.66m viewers for Nine. 60 Minutes was 1.54m and Nine News Sunday was 1.28m.

MasterChef Australia hit 1.09m for TEN on Thursday. Offspring was 746,000 and Law and Order: SVU was 675,000.

Grand Designs (940,000) was best for ABC1 then ABC News (Sun: 801,000) and a New Tricks repeat (799,000).

FIFA World Cup Brazil v Colombia pulled 364,000 for SBS ONE. Other non-FIFA titles were Once Upon a Time in Punchbowl at 226,000 and Tour de France at 220,000.

But a close look at the shares shows that two primary channel battles between Seven & Nine plus TEN & ABC1 were actually line-ball.

So it was multichannels where the week was won and lost. 7TWO and 7mate gave Seven the week, despite GO!’s movie Around the World in 80 Days as the top show on 288,000.

Seven won key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven ranked first on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Nine took Sunday, Monday and Thursday. ABC defeated TEN on Monday, Friday and Saturday.

Seven won all cities except Sydney, which continues to stay loyal to Nine.

  1. Nine has a lot of the programming budget tied up an in exclusive all WB content deal which runs until 2016. So they get lots of TBBT repeats but little else that is working at the moment.

    Go! normally wins based on TBBT rpts. Some Wimbledon late in the evenings probably helped 72 get up.
