New US medical drama The Night Shift has been renewed for a second season.
The NBC drama, which is currently airing in Australia on Universal, has been given the greenlight for 14 new episodes, six more than season one.
The one-hour series from creators Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah stars Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Freddy Rodriguez, Daniella Alonso, Ken Leung, and Scott Wolf as medical staff at San Antonio Memorial Hospital.
Variety reports the series debuted with 7.8 million US viewers, and became the third most-watched drama on NBC this season among total viewers, and has become the number one new scripted series on network and cable this summer in ages 18-49.
The Night Shift airs 8:30pm Thursdays on Universal.

Really, I watched the first ep and thought it was really ordinary I usually love medical shows maybe I’ll give it a second go perhaps it improves
In 3 weeks, Devious Maids will be taking over that timeslot.
I am actually enjoying this show. It’s a nice replacement for Grey’s Anatomy while that’s between seasons. Can’t wait for the next episode!
Really…….. i deleted it after 2 episodes…… its awful!
Very good news. Absolutely loving the show. Can’t believe it only got a first season of 8 though,
Was OK, very polished everything felt like a TV series and not at all real. Seen it all before, done heaps better.
