Seven, Nine in dead-heat for ratings, TEN on high.

Ratings: Seven & Nine tied for first place last week, with TEN enjoying its best week this year.

2014-07-28_0024Last week Seven and Nine tied for first place in the TV ratings, with TEN enjoying its best week so far this year.

In fact it was probably due to TEN’s rise that its rivals were left to tussle over every last scrap -just like the old days.

Network:
Seven / Nine: 27.5
TEN: 23.3
ABC: 15.8
SBS: 5.9

As a result, the winner will go down to Timeshifted results in a week’s time. In the past Seven has fared better on that front but Nine will be hoping its Voice finale will have attracted big numbers. Watch this space.

Despite expressing disappointment in its numbers, The Voice finale was still the week’s biggest show for Nine, at 1.66m viewers. Other shows were 60 Minutes (1.46m), Nine News (Sun: 1.35m), The Voice: Kids (1.23m) and Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year South America (1.04m).

Seven News (Sun: 1.32m) was best for Seven then The X Factor (Sun: 1.27m). Other titles were Better Homes and Gardens (1.01m) and Home and Away (877,000).

TEN’s buoyant week was led by Masterchef (Thurs: 1.17m), Glasgow Live (Thurs eve: 912,000) and Offspring (905,000).

ABC has been caught in the crossfire. Its best was ABC News (Sun: 920,000), Grand Designs (896,000) and Australian Story (781,000).

Who Do You Think You Are? continues to lead SBS ONE at 505,000 viewers then Alexander’s Lost World (269,000) and Insight (268,000).

Primary channel:
Nine: 20.0
Seven: 19.4
TEN: 16.1
ABC: 11.4
SBS ONE: 5.0

Multichannels:
ONE / GO!: 4.3
7TWO: 4.1
7mate: 4.0
GEM: 3.2
ELEVEN 2.9
ABC2: 2.6
ABC News 24: 1.0
ABC3: 0.8
SBS TWO: 0.8
NITV: 0.1

TEN won the 16-39, 18-49 demos and Nine won 25-54.

Nine won Sunday, Monday and Friday. Seven won Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. TEN won Thursday (despite minimal press coverage on the victory).

TEN bettered Nine on Thursday and Saturday. Last week it also beat the ABC on every night.

Seven won Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, Nine took Sydney and Brisbane.

Last week TEN pipped Nine in Perth and was breathing down the neck of Nine in both Melbourne and Adelaide by around 2%.

Corrected.

  1. Purchasing the broadcast rights for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games was obviously a very good move for Ten, up there with their decision to buy the 20/20 rights. I am thoroughly enjoying their Games coverage thus far. Do they have the rights for Gold Coast 2018?

  2. I must say that there has been very little of interest to me on the ABC for the last few weeks. Le Tour on SBS has exacerbated things because I’m time-shifting The Tunnel and Secret State but there isn’t much else anyway. The great Wednesdays of old are gone.

Even the 7pm news is pretty awful – much more superficial and tabloid like what I’d expect to see on commercial TV. And the once-great ABC2 has been topped up with cheap nasty junk about young stupid people doing stupid things in addition to all of the repeats.

  3. Great to see that One can lead (well equally) the multichannels from only three nights of the Commonwealth Games. Think it’s an indication that Aussies love sport in HD, live and in prime time. Hope Network Ten take note when it comes to the Big Bash.
