TV Week to launch Soap Extra mag

Soap fans are getting a new fortnightly mag with nothing but news, plots and more suds.

2014-07-14_1652TV Week will launch a new fortnightly magazine for fans of soap.

Bauer Media has identified a gap in the market for a contemporary magazine that covers television soaps and dramas.

“The one-off special of TV Week Soap Extra we produced and launched in January was a huge success,” editor Erin McWhirter told TV Tonight.

“Off the back of that, as well as TV Week’s reputation as a known and trusted brand, it was evident there was enough room in the magazine market for TV Week Soap Extra as an ongoing offering.”

Jayne Ferguson, Publisher for Bauer Media said, “The TV Week brand continues to go from strength-to-strength and connects with more Australians across multiple platforms than ever before.

“With a history spanning more than 55 years, TV Week is a true cross-platform media brand spanning print and digital magazines, mobile and social engagement, websites and, of course, events like the popular TV Week Logie Awards. For advertisers, the opportunity to connect with Australians’ passion for television and celebrity entertainment has never been greater.”

TV Week Soap Extra will launch with 68 pages of news, plots and entertainment from local and international, plus online and mobile application.

The first issue at $3.95 goes on sale on Thursday, July 31.

TV Soap magazine which has been published for 28 years is published by NextMedia.

  1. I’m with J Bar here! If it makes regular TV Week less soapy, then it can only be a good thing. But I doubt they’d want to split their readership that way.

  2. A gap in the market? There are already several soap magazines available for purchase (TV Soap, Soap World etc) as well as ones imported from overseas to cover UK soaps etc, not to mention numerous websites already covering all the soap news as it happens, not two weeks behind in printed form.
