6 kids, 3 endings for The Voice: Kids

The Voice: Kids filmed alternate endings for its grand final 2 months ago, to accommodate Mel B.

Three children in The Voice: Kids were filmed as winners of the show’s grand final, in alternate endings prerecorded for the Nine show.

News Corp reports the winner was filmed two months ago in separate victories, to accommodate the international commitments of Mel B, who is a coach on The X Factor UK.

As this image indicates there are six finalists, who will be whittled down to a final three.

Alternate endings were filmed so that a public vote determines the winner.

But after the show has already received criticism over junior involvement in reality TV drama, let’s hope none of the kids are upset at suddenly losing after being filmed as winner.

Alternate endings have become increasingly popular by reality TV shows including MasterChef, My Kitchen Rules and The Biggest Loser. These avoid shows regrouping their casts for a finale months after production has concluded, and avoids the outcome being leaked from a single winner. But there has also been criticism it allows producers to ensure a viewer favourite ends up as winner.

The Voice: Kids executive producer Julie Ward has previously told TV Tonight the show took their duty of care very seriously.

“On reflection I’m really proud of what we and the team have done to work with the families and the kids to give them the respect that we’ve taken from the adult show,” she said.

“We’ve really kept in mind that this is a life experience for them, not just a TV show.”

The Voice: Kids airs at 7:40pm Sunday, although even Nine’s own site doesn’t seem too sure about that, still advertising the site as 6:30pm as of today.

  1. @MM
Well that’s a bit rude, they chose her she accepted and they knew the kind of commitments she had, and she is getting paid 2.5 mil to be exact

  2. Why should everything revolve around Mel B, she’s not even an Aussie, yet nine bend over backwards to accommodate her, if she was not committed to being a judge and follow it through to the end, why did she take on the job, money grabbing that’s all, and I bet she was paid a nice sum and now everything has been recorded just for one person, and it being recoded 2 months ago. Shame on channel 9.

  3. They probably wanted to tape it beforehand to control the reactions of the losers. Imagine the bad publicity if a losing child had a major meltdown on live TV. Nine would be crucified in the media, especially the Today Tonight expose on cruel kids talent shows.

  4. *puts cynical hat on*

If the “winner” the audience votes for isn’t deemed cute or marketable enough, will they still “win”?

They have three chances to get it right, let’s hope all goes to plan!

  5. Oh I hate it when they do this! How hard is it to just film everything else up until the announcement, then do that part live – they could have Mel B on via satellite. It just feels really fake – for me any of the pre-filmed endings are just pointless, because you know it’s not genuine. Comparison – X Factor to MKR – found the “winners announcement” for MKR almost dull because their hearts weren’t truly in it – it felt like they were holding back a little. X Factor – I found myself almost getting emotional myself!!
