Filming begins on a new ABC drama following a Gold Coast family in witness protection.

2014-08-10_2007Filming begins today on a new ABC drama, Hiding, following a Gold Coast family in witness protection who must build a new life in a strange city.

The eight hour series from Playmaker Media stars James Stewart, Kate Jenkinson, Lincoln Younes and introducing Olivia DeJonge. Somewhat surprisingly, Stewart and Jenkinson will play parents to 22 year old Lincoln Younes, despite the slim age gap.

Also appearing are Stephen Curry, Nathan Page, Jodi Gordon, Kim Gyngell and Jacqueline McKenzie.

The drama by Matt Ford (Love Child, House Husbands, SLiDE, Panic at Rock Island) is another of the projects developed through the Scribe Initiative, in partnership with Screen Australia.

“Matt Ford has created a funny, warm, high stakes drama about a family on the run given a second chance to stay together. Hiding has a ton of heart meshed with Matt’s unique brand of dark humour, and we’re proud to be producing it for the ABC,” said Playmaker’s David Taylor and David Maher.

ABC TV Head of Fiction Carole Sklan said, “Hiding places an emotionally complex family drama at the heart of a gripping crime thriller. Playmaker and Matt Ford have brought a highly original voice to a story of how resilient, even joyful, ordinary people can be when faced with an unimaginable threat.”

It will be directed by Shawn Seet, Tori Garrett and Grant Brown and executive produced by the ABC’s David Ogilvy and Greer Simpkin.

  1. If it keeps up with the high production value of recent ABC dramas like Janet King then this should be well worth watching. Certainly better than anything on offer on the commercial networks, except maybe Offspring.
