8 young marine animal enthusiasts undertake a 6 week training mission working with dolphins, seals, penguins & turtles.

2014-08-27_2330ABC3’s new kid’s observational series, Blue Zoo, begins next month.

The 13 part series follows eight young marine animal enthusiasts from Australia and Ireland on a six-week training mission working with dolphins, seals, penguins and turtles.

More than five hundred kids applied for this series.

The Rookies head to Coffs Harbour, New South Wales and are thrown in the deep end to learn how to care for and train rescued marine animals. Their hard work culminates in the creation of a brand new dolphin and seal performance that showcases the Rookies’ own conservation messages.

Joined by marine experts – Aaron, Amy, Janine and Dr Duan – the Rookies experience the highs and lows of working with marine animals: from assisting with emergency seal, turtle and dolphin rescues and releases, to witnessing the birth of a baby dolphin, and redesigning and building better animal homes. They also get stuck into the not so glamorous jobs like fish prep and cleaning up stinky seal poop each morning!

Park Boss Paige sets the Rookies a challenge to create a marine show that conveys a strong conservation message of their own choice. They have just six weeks to deliver.

Blue Zoo is packed to the gills with life-changing adventures and life-long friendships, as Rookies tackle global conservation issue

5:20pm Monday September 8th ABC3.
