Airdate: Farewell Simply Red.

Smooth will air a one hour farewell concert featuring Simply Red at the Sydney Opera House.

2014-08-11_1448This Saturday night Smooth will air a one hour farewell concert featuring Simply Red at the Sydney Opera House.

This is an Australian television premiere although the event did take place back in 2010.

After a 25-year career having sold over 50-million records worldwide, Mick Hucknall’s Simply Red paid their farewells in the iconic Sydney Opera House in 2010. The band reached its peak in the early to mid-90s with the release of their most well-known album to the date. Stars became the best-selling album for two years in a row in the UK and Europe. This concert film includes a selection of Simply Red’s greatest hits: from Something Got Me Started and Stars to more recent songs such as Sunrise.

Farewell Simply Red airs Saturday August 16 at 8.00pm

  1. @Rudi – wow, Peter Hook is not a fan in a big way! Would be so interested to hear from other musos their ‘best’ and ‘worst’ meetings. I recently met one of my fav singers and he told me how one of my other favs had turned into a d*head (they used to be mates), I was shocked and pleasantly surprised he’d be so honest!

  2. The picture quality was so poor last time it spoiled the whole concert, get the Blue-Ray its much, much better and the sound is great hooked up to a proper sound system

  3. @Mac, @Kristi – I always think Peter Hook (Joy Division) summed it up nicely.

    With David’s indulgence:

  4. @mac – you may already know this song but Tim Minchin does a very funny p-take on this subject in ‘Prejudice’ (Only a Ginger Can Call Another Ginger Ginger). Not sure if we are allowed to put links in here so I didn’t.

  5. Never forgiven Mick Hucknall for his epic quest to find the upper reaches of his own colon which peaked with his argument that the word “ginger” was as offensive as the “N-word”. And the fact that his already bloated music became even more diabolical after Stars.
