Next week SBS begins a new 7 part series about the history of The British Isles from Stonehenge to World War Two, the Roman occupation to the discovery of penicillin.
Through dramatic reconstruction, the series showcases Britain’s change and evolvement through time, woven together with stunning documentary footage from across the British Isles. A chorus of well known, influential celebrities, including Helen Mirren, Jessie J, Jeremy Irons, Lily Cole and Tim Roth give the series a real freshness by joining in an on-screen conversation about what it means to be British.
Episode One: Treasure Islands
In 58 AD the arrival of a 10,000-strong Roman army changed England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland for ever. How did this historic moment effect the achievements of early Britons? What social structures held sway before the invasion and who built Stonehenge and for what purpose?
Friday, 22 August at 8.30pm on SBS ONE.

One Response
In case anyone’s confused, this actually started last Friday (15th).
Strange premise – the celeb factor is just going to put off people genuinely interested in a series like this and won’t be enough to pull in viewers who would otherwise not be interested.
