US drama series Longmire, starring Australian Robert Taylor, has been axed after three seasons.

Taylor stars as recently widowed sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming in the drama which has screened in Australia on GEM. It also starred Katee Sackhoff, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman, Adam Bartley and Lou Diamond Phillips, who is currently in Australia performing in The King & I.

The third season ended with 3.7 million US viewers and 0.6 in the 18-49 demographic, down from its Season 2 finale.

“We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew and producers of Longmire, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling,” the network said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.”

However Entertainment Weekly notes producer Warner Horizon hopes to continue the series elsewhere.
