Believe it or not, they’re going to remake The Greatest American Hero at FOX.
The action-comedy series by Steven J. Cannell aired from 1981 – 1983 starring William Katt and Robert Culp and spawned the hit single “Believe It or Not.”
Deadline reports FOX has ordered a pilot which will chronicle inner-city teacher Isaac’s adventures after his discovery of a superhero suit that gives him superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for Isaac, he hates wearing the suit and has to learn how to use its powers by trial and error because he quickly misplaces the suit’s instructions. He also has to deal with a government handler who has very different objectives than him and struggles as to whether he should use his newfound gifts to help others or just himself.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of the 22 Jump Street feature film (Cannell created 21 Jump Street) will executive produce with Cannell’s daughter, Tawnia McKiernan (Devious Maids, Grimm, The Mentalist), to direct.
Lord and Miller are also behind The Lego Movie.
Doesn’t matter how good this is, it will never improve on the theme song.

Leave it alone … wasting money that could be spent on something new … not a re-hash … stupid Networks! 🙁
“Isaac”? It won’t quite be the same without the reluctant hero being called Ralph.
As a “tween” when the original show aired, I absolutely loved it. it was both fun and funny….I look forward to the new version.
Maybe William Katt can play the government handler.
God we cant be that bereft of ideas can we
I watched the original series not long ago and I thought it was pretty good (loved the theme song).
I hope the rebooted series comes to a Free To Air channel (Seven, Nine or TEN) so I can see how the new series compares to the old one.
This was the worst TV show I have ever seen. It should stay cancelled.
@maxxdude – Steven J. Cannell isn’t involved his daughter Tawnia McKiernan is, Steven sadly passed away on September 30, 2010 (was a great scene in Castle about it as well).
Will be interesting to see how this goes, the original was brilliant and loved William Katt in the role.
why cant they think of new things…leave the old ones alone !
George Costanza’s version of the theme song was the best!
Yeah, I really do not know, maybe in the days of CGI it might be speccy, but it would be hard to improve on the original.
I loved the original so much so I don’t know about this. At least Steven J Cannell is involved.
