Based on the figures for Thursday night that’s a yes with Seven’s screening of the UK series The World’s Oddest Animal Couples (765,000) outranking TEN’s The Bachelor (661,000).

But The Bachelor scored where it counts with advertisers, topping the 16-39 and 18-49 demos and only pipped in 25-54s by the Footy Show.

However, Nine network won the night with 32.9% then Seven 27.1%, TEN 17.4%, ABC 16.7% and SBS 5.8%.

Nine News (1.01m / 932,000) was best for Nine then ACA (831,000), The Footy Show (702,000), Thursday Night NRL (645,000 in 2 cities), and Hot Seat (561,000).

The Bachelor led for TEN at 661,000. The Project was 587,000 / 416,000. TEN Eyewitness News was 553,000, SVU was 372,000 / 336,000 and Ripper Street just 102,000.

Heston’s Great British Food (305,000) led SBS ONE followed by Shane Delia’s Spice Journey: Turkey (290,000), Destination Flavour Down Under (251,000), Masters of Sex (143,000) and SBS World News was just 103,000.

  1. I only knew Ripper Street was back on thanks to my daughter sneaking a peak at The Bachelor.

Incidentally, I stopped watching The Bachelor after the first episode, when the girl who looked like she could have been Emma Stone’s unhinged, heavy-drinking sister was ousted. Ten missed a golden opportunity for some compulsive TV there!

  2. David,
With the Neighbours tornado coming up next week, the show is suddenly being sponsored by ‘Into The Storm’, a movie that’s coming out next week about (can you guess) a tornado. Do you think this is just a coincidence or the film producers had a part to play in planting a suggestion? If so, it’s certainly an interesting new way to advertise, running a similar storyline on an established TV show.

    1. Hard to say. It sounds more like the film distributors decided to promote around a show with a similar theme. I doubt they exerted influence in the writing process. Sounds like they should sponsor BB too.

  3. The animals win every time.
Those furry friends/unlikely liasons last night were just plain heartwarming.

Re Ripper Street, why don’t they just put it on at 9.30 ?
I know it didn’t rate too well last season here but it is still a helluva a lot better than most of the other crap on Ten at present.
(Damian Malony is a bonus as well.)
God knows, their cupboards couldn’t be any barer !

  4. Really, what were TEN expecting with Ripper Street after it flopped last year & next to no advertising for it’s series return this year.. they deserved such a poor result.

They should have bumped this to ONE as first run content and promoted it, there were a lot of comments last night on TEN’s Facebook page about the late night timeslot and lack of promotion.
