Mark Webber gears up for more motorsports

Former Grand Prix champ, who joined TEN's F1 commentary in March, is stepping up his role.

2014-08-21_2057Former Grand Prix champ Mark Webber, who joined TEN’s F1 commentary in March, is stepping up his role with the network.

He will join host Matt White for the V8 Supercars Championship’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide and Bathurst 1000, plus commentary for the both the qualifying and race of the 2015 Australian Formula One Grand Prix.

TEN has announced a 41 week motorsports schedule, anchored by Webber from 4pm every Sunday, with six live V8 Supercars Championship races, live Formula One races, live MotoGP races and eight V8 Supercars highlights programs.

Mark Webber said: “I am delighted to be extending my relationship with Network TEN for the next couple of years, especially after enjoying my punditry role with them at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix.

“TEN have been tremendous supporters of motorsport and F1 in particular for some time and certainly provide the best coverage in Australia of international and domestic categories.”

Mark added: “Working with the commentary teams for both Clipsal 500 and the Bathurst 1000 will be a whole new experience for me. I am certainly no V8 Supercars expert, but my experience in the World Endurance Championship means that I will be able to provide an insight into what the drivers are going through in such gruelling, long distance events.

“I haven’t been to Bathurst or Adelaide since my Formula Ford days, so I’m looking forward to returning to some of my old haunts and being a part of these iconic Australian motorsport events,” he said.

TEN’s coverage of motorsport starts from the first race of the V8 Supercars Championship, the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, on Friday, February 27, 2015 and follows with the Townsville 500, Sandown 500, Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast 600 and Sydney 500.

RPM, hosted by Matt White, returns with a variety of V8 Supercars drivers, former Formula One driverAlan Jones and ex-MotoGP 500cc Champion Daryl Beattie. The first RPM show for 2015 will welcome Mark Webber as co-host.

Webber ended his 12-year career last November after winning nine Grands Prix.

  2. @Shoudy – Bairdo has a lot of racing commitments (pretty much anything with 4 wheels and an engine). Plus, let’s be honest, he can drive just about anything but was more like a rabbit caught in the headlights when commentating on the F1, and his knowledge lacked the required depth to be the “expert” colour commentator.

  3. Good to see Mark Webber joining the F1 Grand Prix commentary for the first time. But what about Craig Baird. I haven’t seen him on TV for a while.

  4. Can’t wait for this, someone at TEN knowing what they are talking about when it comes to motorsport!

    V8s – I know some are not going to like the fact that not all of the V8 races will be live on FTA anymore, but that’s progress and I do think for most of the audiance (on TEN) they won’t care. As long as the coverage is ever race Sunday and before the news does it really make a difference?

    Now time to go and add sports to my Foxtel package again…
