Men dominate list of most powerful names in TV

Everybody loves a list, but who is in and out according to a list of TV's most powerful people?

Tim Worner -- CEO, Seven West MediaEverybody loves a list and today Fairfax publishes the 75 most powerful people in Australian television.

It includes network CEOs, Programmers, production company bosses, heads of departments, actors, producers, writers and agents.

There are some fantastic names that will have us all nodding, including David Gyngell, Tim Worner, Brian Walsh, Mark & Carl Fennessy, Shaun Micallef, Asher Keddie, Brendan Dahill, Sue Masters, Working Dog, Kevin Whyte…

But there are only 20 females amongst a list of 87 names (some are paired to total 75).

It’s also the kind of list that will leave many fuming for being left off. You know who you are…

  1. Suddenly lost interest in clicking the link when I read that they think that 75 actually equals 87?

    75 names is 75 names, whether some are equal ranked or not.

    If there were extra names that just had to be included why not just make the list Top 100 and throw in some more.

  2. First and foremost and positively above everyone else is David Leckie. His above reproach record and inestimable achievements speak for themselves.

    Bevan Lee, Seven’s drama brainchild responsible for its leading drama brands including three of the biggest titles in the last six years.

    Former Nine programming director and industry veteran John Stephens, replicating the same success in his current Seven roles.

    News boss Peter Meakin who lead the news and current affairs division both at Seven and Nine and currently serving a post at Network Ten.

    Seven Network Director of development Brad Lyons.

    Seven head of sport Saul Shtein.

    Rory Callaghan, former head of light entertainment at Nine, posts at Granada and his current tenure at Shine Australia.

    Talent Manager Lisa Mann at Lisa Mann creative management, representing a number of high profile stars including Luke Arnold, Lachy Hulme, Kat Stewart and Alan Dale.

    Casting Directors Anousha Zarkesh, Greg Apps and Mullinar casting consultants.

  3. Where’s your name David? And Beverly McGarvey…meanwhile Hoodlum folks? They had one of the biggest drama failures on tv this year…Whoever complied this seems a little out of touch.

  4. News programs are usually among the highest rating night in, night out, yet the only news executive who rates a mention is Ang Frangopolous from Sky? That’s a bit rich I reckon…
