MTV heats up August

“We sometimes receive feedback that we do not play enough music," says MTV, "but it just isn’t true."

2014-08-05_1318This month MTV will screen new MTV World Stage concerts, highlights from European music festivals Wireless and a documentary on EDM festival, Tomorrowland.

Later this month is also has a Live broadcast of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, with nominees including Australian and New Zealand artists Iggy Azalea, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Sia and Lorde.

MTV has also recently launched Your MTV Top 20, aiming to be the world’s most comprehensive weekly music video chart and the only one ultimately determined by fan interaction via social and digital media.

“This exceptional line up of music programming is one of the best that MTV Australia and New Zealand has ever seen,” said Simon Bates, Director of MTV Australia and NZ.

We have four full time music channels across Australia and New Zealand, MTV Music, MTV Dance, MTV Hits and MTV Classic, dedicated to music, 24/7. In addition to these, and with the upcoming roster of music programming on the MTV channel, we are confident that there is something in there for every music fan.”

Tomorrowland: Ten Years of Unity, Love, Madness and Magic

In addition to the MTV World Stage broadcast of Tomorrowland, MTV will also air the documentary Tomoorowland: Ten Years of Unity, Love, Madness and Magic, celebrating Tomorrowland’s 10-year history as one of the world’s most popular and successful festivals. Tomorrowland, which won its third Best Music Festival Award at the IDMA in Miami earlier this year, is the world’s leading electronic dance music festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary this summer. The Belgian festival sold 360,000 tickets available for the 2014 edition in less than one hour to guests from over 190 countries.

5 Seconds of Summer, Usher and Ariana Grande are the first artists to be announced as performers at this years VMAs, airing live from the Forum in Inglewood, California on Monday 25 August from 10am. This year, Australian artist Iggy Azalea came in second to Beyonce with a whopping eight nominations.

    Yeah, that would be on the “reality” channel – whoops – main MTV Channel, which is nothing but reality shows, repeated ad-nauseam.

    1. MTV’s Road Rules is generally regarded as the first Reality TV show, so yep it’s a genre they do love. I suppose there is a disconnect between what the name stands for and people’s expectations.
