Presto slashes price

Foxtel's streaming movie service will slash its monthly subscription rate to just $9.99.

2014-07-01_2234From Sunday Foxtel’s streaming movie service Presto, will slash its monthly subscription rate from $19.99 per month to just $9.99.

The service, which launched in March, comes with no lock in contract and is accessible on various devices including PC, Mac iPad, selected Android tablets and Google Chromecast.

Current Presto customers will get a free month’s subscription.

Shaun James, Director Presto & VOD, said, “We’ve established our new pricing to provide a simple flat rate for customers and today we’re thrilled to bring Presto to eager movie lovers at our new $9.99 per month subscription price with no lock-in contract*. With Presto’s vast offering of recent blockbusters and classic films, we have delivered one of the best value-for-money movie subscription streaming services anywhere. What’s more, with Presto’s recent launch on Chromecast, subscribers can now enjoy Presto movies on living room big screens.”

With all the VOD services around and Nine’s upcoming StreamCo venture, this certainly makes Presto a lot more attractive.

My main beef with the service is that all the Customer Service is left to online enquiries only. There is no phone number to speak to a Presto representative. I found this frustrating when I had errors and was ready to watch my movie. Not good having to wait for a reply.

But the new price is a very welcome move.

  1. So, I take it that normal Foxtel customers will be subsidising this discount. That’s why they’ll be able to afford giving it away for this price.

  2. There are reports on other forums of foxtel introducing more price points. The more price points was also mentioned by some ASTRA dude on media week yesterday and he said in the next few years (or maybe sooner).

Looks like the changes may already be starting.
