Rove’s return lifts The Project

Ratings: Rove at the desk adds an extra 100,000 to The Project, but Monday belonged to Nine.

projcrvRove McManus’ return to television last night lifted The Project by around 100,000 on the preceding Monday, at 730,000 / 528,000 across its split-coded hour. The show also benefitted from the breaking news of Julian Assange’s confirmation that he will leave the Ecuadorian embassy “soon” with a live phone chat to a Wikileaks lawyer.

But it was Clive Palmer’s outburst on Q & A that has all the headlines today, for all the wrong reasons.

Meanwhile the night belonged to the Nine network with a share of 31.6% then Seven 28.5%, ABC 20.7%, TEN 16.0% and SBS 3.3%.

The Block (1.28m) topped the night for Nine then Nine News (1.16m / 1.09m), A Current Affair (1.00m), House Husbands (966,000), Hot Seat was strong at 783,000, Extraordinary Lives (454,000) and Footy Classified (241,000 in 3 cities).

Seven News (1.19m / 1.1m) was best for Seven then The X Factor eliminating boyband Younger than Yesterday (1.08m), Home and Away (924,000), The Amazing Race: Aus v NZ (616,000) and Million Dollar Minute (591,000). Talking Footy was 34,000 in 3 cities (113,000 on 7mate).

Australian Story (880,000) bettered ABC News (823,000). Next for ABC were 7:30 (684,000), Four Corners (654,000), Q & A (639,000), Media Watch (629,000) and QI (406,000).

The Project (730,000 / 528,000) led TEN’s night. TEN Eyewitness News was 659,000, David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities was 475,000 / 384,000, Have You Been Paying Attention? was 435,000 and an NCIS: LA repeat was 263,000.

It was a terrible night for SBS, even by their own standards. Mythbusters was the best it could manage at 129,000, then Legally Brown (120,000), SBS World News (118,000), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (106,000) and the aptly-titled Michael Mosley: Vets in Disaster Zone (105,000).

Neighbours was best on multichannels at 326,000.

Sunrise: 366,000
Today: 288,000
ABC News Breakfast: 70,000 / 54,000

  1. I haven’t watched Home and Away in years and what surprises me most is the figures they get at that time of night. It’s turned Bogan since the Braxtons came along.Until they and the rest of those River Thugs are gone for Good I’ll stick to an older American Sitcom long out of production thank you.

  2. Of course Rove would improve a show’s ratings. Unlike Pickering – Rove never shows his lefty side of politics.

I am sure this is the reason why Dave Hughes and Charlie were shown the door. Steve Price, Andrew Bolt and other rightwingers were upset with their negative comments about the LNP and their policies.

  3. Home and Away’s lower ratings seems to have forced Seven into adding more ads to its 7PLUS service (as someone on this site mentioned) and burying it’s catch up on 7TWO at 9.30 am Sunday mornings in the hope more viewers return to the 7pm screening.
My advice, just get rid of the Braxtons and give the show a much needed refresh.

  4. I am not surprised. Charlie was acting like a tool the last few weeks. Very much limiting the audience. Good to have rove back and would like to see ray back again once in a while.

  5. Well with House husbands on 966,000 it seems it could be the top Aussie drama for the week. H&A has been lower lately and I know W&L and ABC offerings are not as high.
Funny how ratings this winter didn’t improve much on summer numbers…
