TEN may re-open book on This is Your Life

Mike Munro may open his big red book on Network TEN.

mike-munroTEN is mulling the idea of reviving This is Your Life, according to a report today.

Apparently buoyed by the response to Family Feud simulcast, TEN is turning to the past for its future. Television is cyclical after all….

TEN also has Mike Munro in its stable, who hosted the show for many years after Mike Willesee.

This is Your Life last appeared on Nine for a brief stint hosted by Eddie McGuire in 2011 (Deborra-Lee Furness anyone?).

There were also rumours of Seven reviving the series in 2008. From memory Nine had the rights to the title even when it wasn’t in production, so it isn’t clear if that will prove a sticking point here.

News Corp also states TEN is researching audience interest in a revival of Thank God You’re Here, Australian Idol and -surely not- Young Talent Time  (I think we need a few more years before that’s even worth researching).

  1. Would love to see Thank God You’re Here return! Big votes for this, stick with American Idol atleast their talent pool is big enough to make watching it enjoyable!

Whilst Rove was great as a weekly show, would love to see something like Tonight Live with Steve Vizard done on a daily basis.

Other possibilities are to explore sketch programs like Fast Forward/Full Frontal. If done with the right team we could be on another winner!

  2. Australian Idol – definitely no. Indistinguishable from X Factor and The Voice x 2 (screeching kiddies) – what on earth’s the difference? Just more talent shows, same old, same old judging panels, much the same format as each other and whoever sings the loudest wins. And is rarely heard of since.

And it’s a Yes to Thank God you’re Here !

  3. Both Matt Doran and Natarsha Belling are better news readers than Mike Munro. Poor Hermione Kitson is gone altogether, but I’m surprised I still see Danny Isdale at the comm games and Paul Bongiorno on the news. This is your life is well past the used by date, it’s slow and more than half the people on the show you don’t know. I love Sandra Sully and Brad McEwan and miss them terribly up here in Brisbane, but I don’t need to see who there kindergarten teachers where!

  4. This Is Your Life could do well for Ten but Australian Idol and Young Talent Time are mistakes. The Voice and X Factor haven’t rated anywhere near as well as they did last year which could mean Australia becoming bored of singing shows so you can bet Australian Idol would struggle on Ten. Where’s Wanted? It was announced it would return this year but nothing has eventuated. In the right timeslot it could do well. On a side note, Ten need to find something a permanent gig for Natarsha Belling. She has been an exceptional fill in for Sarah Harris on Studio10. Give her the weekend bulletin back and find something else for Mike Munro to do eg an investigative journalism program. Meakin has plenty of time on his hands with only one bulletin to oversee so get him busy!

  5. Maybe they could re-jig TIYL with a bit of a “Where are they now” feel. I’m sure with TEN that they would have a long list of people to contact! Maybe more commercial and TV-friendly subjects too to appeal to the younger generations.

  6. Hmmm….yep…not mad about Rove on The Project…but I think he would do Blankety Blanks well….and it can still be good and funny with sex….and I reckon Rove could do it well ..now the thought is planted in my mind.

  7. If I was Ten I would get AYSMTAFG and IAK but good on Ten for getting them onto our screens.
I would have Matt White host AYSMTAFG and Matt White, Mel McLaughlin, Nuala and Matt Burke host IAK

  8. Channel Nine dropped it claiming this country is too small and too young so the pool is limited in finding extraordinary people worth celebrating. The show belongs in last century and should stay there. You would only see movie, tv and sports stars being celebrated Australian Story has somewhat filled in that gap anyways and is a much better show.

  9. I think they should do News at 5, Family Fued at 6pm, Sale of the Century at 6.30 and the old 7PM Project at 7pm. After 7.30 they could go with Talking about Gen, This is your Life and Idol on different nights. Add Masterchef and 10 would be back in business. I also think 10 should do a late night local talk show with Todd Sampson or Dave Hughes.
