TV execs at AFTRS Brand Funding seminar

Beverley McGarvey, Hamish Turner and Tim Clucas will discuss brand-funded content at a one day seminar.

2014-08-04_0014TV industry execs including Beverley McGarvey, Hamish Turner and Tim Clucas will speak at a one day seminar on Sponsorship and Brand Funding at the Australian Film Television and Radio School in October.

The AFTRS Open seminar will look at the various aspects of making branded content and what does / doesn’t work.

Also speaking are Perry Smith, Tom Maynard, Brian Gallagher and Jason Franklin.

“In all my time in television, both inside Networks and working in the Independent production world, no form of programming has offered more promise yet delivered more frustration than brand funded TV,” said Tim Clucas, former Director of Programming at FremantleMedia Australia.

“In a perfect world, brand funding would deliver low cost, compelling and popular programming yet this rarely happens. This workshop will work out why and help avoid those mistakes. That’s a major TV riddle answered.”

This one-day seminar examines why the great dream of a brand-funded paradise where networks, brands, producers and audiences all benefited equally ended up being a mirage. It also looks at the future where a new brand-funded vision is emerging that is even more exciting and financially lucrative than what has gone before it. The seminar will firstly deconstruct the demise of the brand-funded dream looking at why what seemed like such good ideas at the time usually ended up dashed against the rocks of mistrust and under-funding. A few ideas flourished and we’ll dissect those to see what lessons can be learnt there. The second half of the seminar paints an exciting future for brand-funded programming. We introduce some of the individuals that are positioning themselves to take pole position in the race for the brand-funded jackpot and give everyone the chance to find out how they can be part of that brand new world.

The seminar takes place on October 31 in Sydney.
