Airdate: The Island with Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls is returning to SBS with a new 2014 series in which he tests whether modern man has lost the ability to look after themselves when they’re stripped of everyday creature comforts.

The Island with Bear Grylls is a six -part series featuring 13 ordinary British men, left completely alone in the Pacific, with only the clothes they stand up in and some basic tools, filming the entire experience themselves with no camera crew.

Episode One:
The men are dropped off by Bear, and left totally alone with the clothes they stand in and a few basic tools. In danger of being overwhelmed by the tides they battle through the dense undergrowth and the enormity of the task ahead quickly dawns on them.

They have never met and whilst they try to get to know each other daylight is quickly running out. Tempers fray and doubts set in as they try to agree on where to find a shelter for the night. Even when they eventually settle on a clearing in the jungle, they get a sudden reminder that danger is around every corner.

The shock of the first few hours is temporarily forgotten as the group tumble out onto a breathtaking beach. The island may look like paradise, but when these men are fighting for daily survival, it can be hell on earth. As dehydration and hunger take hold, the men are in serious danger. If they do not find a water source and make fire, their time on The Island will be over. The battle is on as they fight for survival.
