Saturday’s Hawks v Port Adelaide game pulled the biggest AFL audience all year on both Free to Air and Pay TV.
On Seven the show averaged 1.08m viewers (up to 1.36m including Regional viewers).
FOX Footy attracted the second-highest AFL match on Subscription TV ever, with 479,000 viewers. By comparison the highest-rated non Sports show for the night was The Simpsons on 89,000 viewers.
The highest rating match on STV to date is from 2012, a Swans v Collingwood blockbuster that scored 504,000 viewers.
With a Sydney v Melbourne Grand Final on the cards, it’s shaping up as a big drawcard this Saturday.

Great numbers. And – correct me if I’m wrong – but only half of 7s numbers would have counted towards the prime-time figures… Which is very relevant when they lose the week by 0.2%
I always choose to watch the simulcasts on Fox, simply because of the lack of ads in-between goals.
It was a good move by 7 to pick up the rights. Cheers David.
any plans for a twilight GF will get a lot of fans offside
David speaking of footy ratings are you able togive us ratings for SANFL grand final on seven
SANFL was 129,000, the highest since 2002.
I reckon next TV deal which should allow Fox Sports to broadcast AFL GF live while continuing with a live feed on FTA. AFL should do similar deals to MotoGP and V8s from next year
The AFL must surely look at putting the AFL Grand Final start time back 2 hours for the next TV rights period.
A 4.45pm/5pm bounce down into prime time is worth so much more for the TV network with the rights.
@BigJMATHEWS, the Seven Network games simulcast on Fox Footy are not actually in full HD, just upscaled SD.
That’s a lot of people choosing not to watch 7
Last sentence refers to cities as a ratings drawcard, not teams, so it is correct.
I wonder what figure the game would’ve got on Seven if it wasn’t simulcast on Fox Footy. I also reckon they’re wishing the GF wasn’t the only game of the year not simulcast on Fox Footy
Note: It’s Sydney V Hawthorn not Sydney V Melbourne as you have in the last sentence.
Why can’t the Seven Network allow FoxFooty to do the grand final live in hd with no ad breaks siren to siren? It would only make sense.
