Factual producer to head up McAvoy Media

John McAvoy will depart Eyeworks to launch McAvoy Media, a joint venture with post-production company Cutting Edge.

Kal Cops_157Producer John McAvoy will depart Eyeworks Television Australia to launch McAvoy Media, a joint venture production company with post-production company Cutting Edge.

McAvoy will exit as Eyeworks managing director in October to launch the new production company. Dutch-based Eyeworks was recently purchased by Warner Bros. Television Group.

His credits include Gold Coast Cops, What Really Happens In Bali, Kalgoorlie Cops,  Kings Cross ER, Meet The Frockers, Celebrity Splash, Being Lara Bingle, Gangs Of Oz, DIY Rescue, Missing Pieces, You Saved My Life and Territory Cops.

Cutting Edge CEO Michael Burton said, “At Cutting Edge we offer so much more than a traditional post house and with John’s 20 years’ experience, we will deliver significant opportunities right across the group in all areas of content creation.

“John’s industry respect, relationships and knowledge are second to none.”

“It has been a very exciting and busy few years at Eyeworks. It was the perfect opportunity for me after leaving Nine,” said McAvoy.

“Eyeworks before and after the acquisition from Warners has been excellent to deal with on every level. I have very fond memories of my time.

“The business is in very good shape and I wish them continued success post my departure in October. I am however thrilled about my new partnership with Cutting Edge. I have an intimate knowledge of their people and business and am very enthusiastic about developing a future in television with them.”
