2014-09-02_0206Seven has signed Queensland horse racing event Magic Millions, previously broadcast by Nine, to its stable of sports events.

Seven has signed a multi-year agreement for the Gold Coast event with co-owners Gerry Harvey and Katie Page.

It will join other Seven racing events including the Melbourne Spring Carnival, the Melbourne Cup Carnival and Sydney Easter Carnival.

Seven CEO Tim Worner told Fairfax, “The sports offering is very strong and with us and racing, we set out to target the iconic events, and now we’ve got just about all of them. Furthermore, it’s in a very critical location for us in so far that we’ve got a really strong regional television business in Queensland.”

Katie Page told The Australian, “Channel Seven own racing and do an extraordinary job. The brand that wasn’t sitting in the tent was Magic Millions. We were the last part of the jigsaw.

“It just made sense for us and Seven and to come together. We love this business, but we want to make racing even better.”

Seven recently secured the next three Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018.
