‘Snap eviction’ for Big Brother

Big Brother keeps housemates on their toes -and hopefully audiences intrigued.

2014-09-26_1430Not sure if this is due to ratings or various criticisms, but Big Brother has announced a “snap eviction” for Monday night.

This will leave four housemates up for eviction on Tuesday night. An Intruder will enter the house on Wednesday, just 3 weeks into the season.

Last night the show’s ratings were 405,000 interrupted by The AFL Footy Show finale, causing it to air on GO! in 3 cities.

But there has been ongoing disappointment over casting, eviction strategies and lack of live feeds, yet the show is still performing well with younger Demos.

Nine is yet to confirm if it will repeat its eviction strategy that was labelled as “bullying” earlier this week.

  1. David – it was clarified earlier this week that evictions would return to normal once the “pairs” were broken up. The HMs will not be choosing who leaves the house – that’s entirely up to the public (i.e. this week’s process was just a one-off – it’s business as usual from now on as far as evictions are concerned, in that the public “vote to save” and whoever has the least number of votes is evicted).

I think 9 have to accept that airing the season so late at night has had an impact on the ratings and that this season is bound to be its lowest rating. The fact that they’re still doing well in the demos in a later time slot is interesting.

  2. I can see it now, next year they’ll do a cross-promotion Big Brother version to try and grab some ratings. It’ll be a Block Big Brother, they’ll put in Alisa and Lysandra, Darren and Dee, Amity and Phil, Dan and Dani, Dale and Sophie, Bec and George and others liable and controversial.

  3. This season is a hot mess. No momentum and dull as dishwater story lines are cause for early panic.

Just go back to basics please, Big Brother.

Weed out all the bores and clones, bring it some genuinely different ‘characters’ and you may be able to rescue the season.

  4. Hopefully if they do a season next year, it will be more back to basics. That trick did wonders for Masterchef this year. I’ve watched every season so far, but have already given up on this year.

  5. I love BB as people probably already know but these changes in the schedule from Nine to GO! are not helping so many people on facebook didn’t know it was on. And these stunts are only going to give it temporary ratings. David would Nine be happy with just the demo’s? and also have Nine confirmed if they are moving it to 7:30pm after the block?

  6. That eviction was painful to watch, but to suggest it was bullying is silly. None of the housemates had bad intentions and were clearly uncomfortable having to do it.

  7. The late timeslots without more mature content is surely an issue causing low ratings also.

Appartently one of the reasons for the PG rating despite airing well after 8:30pm is because BB is replayed on GO! at 2pm, which is a PG timeslot.

Less censorship, less editing and live feeds would all help build an audience and encourage viewers to consume more.
