Tim Gilbert to replace Ben Fordham on Today

Tim Gilbert becomes Today's sports host when Ben Fordham departs at the end of November

2014-09-29_1608Weekend Today sports presenter Tim Gilbert (pictured, left) has been announced as the permanent replacement for Ben Fordham on Nine’s Today show.

Fordham announced earlier this year he would leave at the end of 2014 to focus on his 2GB radio programme.

In an email to staff, producer Mark Calvert said, “Tim is already part of the family, very well-liked by our viewers, and much-respected for his knowledge of sport. He’ll take over in late November, once we’ve given Ben a good send-off.”

Gilbert has worked with Nine for almost 20 years, first starting with the network in 1996.

Today has seen cast changes in the last 12 months, notably the departure of Georgie Gardner, with Sunrise ahead in the ratings race.

  1. And they wonder why they keep losing the ratings….The new girl that reads the autocue has terrible diction. Her timing with the finance figures is always out, and Tim is a boring as batsh*t, absolutely devoid of any personality, just as horrible as Cam Williams, so awkward to watch. Today just keep giving Sunrise free kicks.

  2. hopefully with the move to Today, he will leave The Sunday Footy Show/ The Roast. He just wasn’t suited there. I agree with the others here about his poor charisma with other panellists.

  3. Poor choice, he has no personality. Today is really missing Georgie. The new girl is boring and a bad reader of news…I love the today show but I am thinking of changing channels with their new roster not engaging me.

  4. Tim Gilbert is a poor choice in my opinion, in the few times I’ve watched weekend today I’ve thought he lacked personality and chemistry with other presenters.
