Towering US character actor who worked in film and television has died.

2014-09-11_1353US character actor Richard Kiel, best known as ‘Jaws’ in two James Bond movies, has died aged 74.

Kiel died in a Californian hospital after recently receiving treatment for a broken leg.

The towering 218cm (7ft 2 inches) actor appeared in numerous movies including The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, The Phantom Planet, The Longest Yard, Silver Streak, Phoenix, Cannonball Run II, Pale Rider, Happy Gilmore, and Tangled.

But he got his start in television appearing in such series as Laramie, Thriller and The Rifleman. On The Twilight Zone‘s “To Serve Man,” he played a representative of a giant alien race called the ‘Kanamits.’

He appeared in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Gilligan’s Island, The Monkees, I Spy, It Takes A Thief, The Wild Wild West, Starsky & Hutch, The Fall Guy and Simon & Simon.

Kiel also worked on the pilot for The Incredible Hulk before Lou Ferrigno came on board.

    The Spy Who loved Me is my favourite Bond film and the first time Richard appeared. Jaws was a great character.
