Axed: The Bridge (US)

FX decides not to pursue a third season of the US adaptation of Scandinavian thriller.

FX The BridgeThe US adaptation of The Bridge is ending with two seasons, the same as its Scandinavian original, after FX decides not to pursue a third season.

The series, starring Diane Kruger and Demián Bichir, was based on the Danish/Swedish series with two countries working together to catch a serial killer. The FX series was fittingly set on the Texan-Mexican border.

It returned for its second US season in July with 1.5 million viewers but consistently fell under the 1 million mark in the back half of its season.

“We thank our partners at FX for their tireless efforts in developing and launching The Bridge with us. From its fresh, unique voice to its deep and diverse ensemble cast, this is a series that we are all very proud of,” said Shine America in a statement.

Variety notes Producers say they’re looking for other options for the series.

It also aired in Australia on FX while the original was on SBS.

  1. Martin is facing trial and imprisonment for killing Jens. The actor was originally announced but according to Wikipedia didn’t like the direction the character was going in so he was written out.

  2. Sadly, I felt this US version underwhelming.

I also heard about Season 3 (of the Danish/ Swedish version) about having no Martin and showing Saga coping without him. I cant imagine what the show will be like without the two together. They make a great duo.

  3. S3 of the Bridge (Danish/Swedish) been written and filming was scheduled to have started last month. It will air there in late 2015.

Martin isn’t appearing and Saga will be coping without her partner and friend.
