Foxtel has extended its agreement with HBO which will see it remain the exclusive destination for HBO films, miniseries, seasons of series, comedy specials and documentaries.
Titles such as Game of Thrones, True Detective, Girls, The Leftovers, Looking and more will continue to premiere on Showcase and select titles will join the new BoxSets Channel.
Foxtel CEO Richard Freudenstein said, “HBO is one of the world’s most impressive television brands. Together, we have forged a fantastic legacy of entertaining Australians with the best drama available. We’re thrilled to extend our exclusive relationship even further to ensure we are able to deliver our customers the entertainment they love and expect from us across Foxtel and Foxtel Play.”
“Foxtel has been a wonderful partner and we couldn’t be happier that they will remain the home of HBO original programming in Australia,” said Richard Plepler, Chairman & CEO, HBO. “The range and variety of our acclaimed programming combined with Foxtel’s innovative viewing platforms makes for a valuable consumer proposition.”
The strengthening comes ahead of possible future entries in the market by Netflix or even HBO Go itself.

Sonic Highways is a documentary series that HBO bought the US distribution rights to. And presumably not covered under the drama deal with Showcase.
HBO isn’t the exclusive destination. Sonic Highways is being shown on Go.
