Mark Holden take note, US clowns unhappy with American Horror Story

It hasn't been a good week for the clowning fraternity...

Mark Holden might want to avoid the Clowns of America International given the clown club is unhappy with American Horror Story: Freak Show.

They’re unhappy with Twisty the Clown (John Carroll Lynch), a serial killer.

“Hollywood makes money sensationalizing the norm,” bemoans Glenn Kohlberger, president of Clowns of America International. “They can take any situation no matter how good or pure and turn it into a nightmare.”

An article in the Hollywood Reporter devotes some attention to the terrifying clowns in popular media, including the Joker, Poltergeist, plus the works of Stephen King and David Fincher (no mention of Krusty the Clown). It also cites the fear of clowns, coulrophobia.

Yesterday Mark Holden spent the day giving radio and press interviews apologising for his behaviour on Dancing with the Stars, claiming the costume “inhabited me and then the clown just erupted and I couldn’t control it.”

He acknowledged that Seven bosses had spoken to him about the matter afterwards. But to suggestions that the world clown association could investigate the performance, he ironically told 3AW, “It’s dreadful. I’m horrified by that news. Shocked. Shocked.”

Meanwhile True Detective director Cary Fukunaga is planning a big screen adaptation of It, which many cited yesterday as the ‘inspiration’ for Mark Holden’s bizarre meltdown.

  1. Back in the late 60’s I co produced & Directed BoBo on his own show for SAS10, with Hal Turner, the originator of “BoBo the Clown”. I can assure you he would have disliked immensely the character Mark Holden portrayed – he was everything Bobo was not, rude and immensely unfunny. Holden is a disgrace.

  2. LOL !
    This is hilarious.
Obviously the irony of a bunch of supposedly fun loving clowns taking themselves so seriously has been lost on the Clown Club of America.

But have to agree Twisty the Pyscho Clown from AH is terrifyingly sinister.
Of course the Stephen King “It “clown is still the original and the best.
Always found him terrifying as a teenager.
Yeah, Mark did a pretty good job of impersonating him.

  3. Wow! I’m surprised that all the witches didn’t complain about Season 3 and all the lunatics complain about Season 2! 🙂
    Ah-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Haaaaaaaaaaa!

I relate it more to Stephen King than your local neighbourhood clown … if someone came near you looking like Twisty you would run away, surely?

Have all the Two Headed People complained yet? Or are they having trouble making their minds up? 🙂 🙁
