UK developing ISIS drama

Channel 4 developing series about those who live in and fight for the self-declared Islamic State.

2014-10-23_0101U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 is developing a TV drama about the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

The drama will “seek to cast light on why a small number of British-born muslims might be tempted” to live in and fight for the self-declared Islamic State.

A spokeswoman for Channel 4 confirmed that the untitled drama was in its very early stages of development, but talks have been around a two- or three-part show with fictional characters.

Peter Kosminsky, currently directing mini-series Wolf Hall for the BBC and PBS, will write the Channel 4 series. Production is expected to start in 2015, with the show to air in 2016.

  1. I’m all for edgy drama and stories being told from “the other” perspective (Generation War was excellent) but I think it’s way too early for something like this. In fact, I can see how it might make the idea of supporting ISIL or going over there more attractive. I don’t see any good coming from this.

  2. Alan Henning, just do a search and look at the images. If a drama was under development about a racist, homophobic gang of murderous violent thugs, seeking to ethnic cleanse any area they took control of, there may be an outcry. These mongrels are not muslims, they are just evil mongrels attempting to hide behind religion and are underserving of any dramatic licence….imo

  3. This is really pushing the boundaries. Given the fact that non muslim British taxi driver was beheaded by these mongrels after going to Syria to help with provide aid, I can see the producers struggling to get this off the ground. Expect a huge backlash.
