14 seasons long, but Dancing dips to lowest finale.

Ratings: It's a run other shows can only dream about, but Dancing wraps with its lowest season so far -still enough for Seven to win the night.

dwts14Dancing with the Stars topped the night for Seven but at 1.06m viewers it was the lowest finale across its hefty 14 seasons (2013: 1.38m in Overnight figures).

As  television audiences fragment and the brand’s fatigue increases it ends the year as the lowest season on record. 14 seasons is a run other shows can only dream about, but while the show did not feature in Seven’s recent Upfronts, it later confirmed a return (a Champions season perhaps?).

Nevertheless, Seven network easily won the night with 32.0% share then Nine 27.7%, TEN 19.4%, ABC 16.3% and SBS 4.7%.

Following Dancing for Seven were Seven News (964,000 / 926,000), Home and Away (799,000), Mrs. Brown’s Boys (489,000) and Million Dollar Minute (478,000).

Nine News (1.04m / 980,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair (848,000), David Attenborough’s Life (671,000). Big Brother‘s penultimate episode was just 552,000 but it did top 16-39 and 18-49 demos. Hot Seat was 478,000 and Big Bang was 185,000.

NCIS pulled 700,000 for TEN. TEN Eyewitness News was 635,000, NCIS: LA was 501,000 / 268,000, The Project was 500,000 / 401,000 and Recipe to Riches was 443,000.

ABC News (797,000) ruled ABC followed by 7:30 (766,000), Kitchen Cabinet (568,000), A Country Road: The Nationals (483,000), At the Movies (364,000) and QI (270,000 in 4 cities).

On SBS ONE it was Secrets of Britain (262,000), Insight (196,000), Years of Living Dangerously (131,000) and SBS World News (119,000).

It was a low night on multichannels with Big Bang best at 247,000.

The Morning Show: 149,000
Mornings: 136,000
Studio 10: 45,000 / 17,000

  1. Have to agree with Kushaa, ratings have dropped right along the board with all shows and maybe that one million viewers is going to be the new benchmark, but after saying that must remember that the numbers quoted are only a fraction of what shows people really watch on free to air as not all households are monitored to record true numbers and the amount of people watching each show, so its really hard to give a true figure..

  2. @Elizabeth C I don’t know about others, I usually watch Home and Away all the time but recently – last week or two, I have only been watching sporadically, don’t think the 6 eps a week has helped.

  3. I remember seeing this show advertised during the Athens 2004 Olympics and thinking it would only last one season. Ten years later its still doing decent ratings at least so it can’t being that badly.

  4. Personally, I wouldn’t declare this show as under-performing this year as I think it’s fair to say that the TV landscape has changed especially in the last few years. Just look at the ratings for the News and Thursdays and Fridays. Maybe 1million is the new benchmark for ratings success. Even artists are having trouble selling millions of records nowadays. How things have changed so much over the years.

  5. DWTS has done well to find 14 seasons worth of “stars” considering they have to use their own mob plus a few sporting identities.

General fatigue with fta comm chs at the moment. Its so easy to watch what you want without the adverts…and when you are ready to watch as well
