Airdate: Death Comes To Pemberley

UK period murder mystery picking up where Pride and Prejudice ended, comes to ABC.

2014-11-19_1331UK period saga Death Comes To Pemberley begins on ABC next week, replacing Happy Valley which ends on Friday night.

The three-part series, based on the best-selling P.D. James novel of the same name, is a murder mystery picking up where Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice ended.

The cast includes Matthew Rhys, Anna Maxwell Martin, Jenna Coleman, Matthew Goode, Trevor Eve and Penelope Keith.

It aired in the UK last Christmas.

Adapted from PD James’s international bestselling novel, the three-part series Death Comes to Pemberley, marks the 200th anniversary year of the first publication of Pride and Prejudice. PD James’s inventive homage to Austen brings her much-loved world to life in a dazzling and original way with Austen’s best-known characters Elizabeth, Darcy and Wickham, at its heart.

Elizabeth (Anna Maxwell Williams) and Darcy (Matthew Rhys) now six years married and with a son, are preparing for the lavish annual ball at their magnificent Pemberley home. The unannounced arrival of Elizabeth’s wayward sister Lydia (Jenna Coleman), however, brings an abrupt and shocking halt to proceedings when she stumbles out of her chaise screaming that her husband Wickham has been murdered.

Darcy leads a search party out to the woodlands, and when they discover the blood-smeared corpse not of Wickham, but his travelling companion, suspicion is at once aroused. The dramatic and unnerving events of the evening have shattered the peace both of the Darcys and of Pemberley, and as the family becomes caught up in the ensuing murder investigation, a mysterious web of secrets and deceit will threaten all that the Darcys hold dear…
