Axed: The Mentalist to end with final season

CBS has confirmed the upcoming seventh season of The Mentalist will be its last.

2014-04-06_1734The mystery will soon be ending for Patrick Jane, but he probably saw it coming.

CBS has confirmed the upcoming seventh season of The Mentalist will be its last.

The series, starring Aussie Simon Baker, will finish with 13 episodes due to begin in the US on November 30th.

The news is not surprising given the show recevived an eleventh hour renewal in May, prompting Warner Bros. TV to shop the series to other networks.

The good news is the show will have a proper sendoff with creator Bruno Heller (Gotham) to oversee the final chapter, sharing duties with current showrunner Tom Szentgyorgyi.

In Australia the show has been a very good hit for Nine, albeit with some schedule movement, and enhanced the star power of Simon Baker in the US. We’re not in E Street anymore….

  1. Once we saw the ANZ commercials and he spoke in an American accent, we stopped watching, we are not fans of Aussies not talking in their Aussie accent especially doing Aussie ads,or when doing interviews, unlike Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchet etc who always shows their pride to be an Aussie

  2. I agree with Chuck128 and Lyn. I too gave up as soon as i knew who Red John was. manly because it was getting stale and Ch9 could not schedule the show decently and that was the main reason why I gave up! Hence I do not watch any dramas on 9. Actually nothing these days….

  3. Yes.The Red John arc went on a couple of seasons too long and became very silly. Once it ended the reboot didn’t really work, it was rating very badly and nobody expected it to get a S7. The only bigger surprise was whatever CBS did to get Beauty And The Beast renewed as a midseason show.

The Mentalist premiering on Sunday night, while The Good Wife and Madam Secretary are off for Christmas, before moving to Wednesday night slot next year.

Of course we will get 14 episodes, because Nine withheld the last episode of S6. Though exactly when or where we will get it who knows.

  4. I’m sad to see it go.
    I agree with @Chuck128
I stopped watching regularly after the Red John fiasco.
And I didn’t like the disbanding of CBI.
I really liked the early episodes.
And, of course, I love Simon Baker 😉

  5. The change to the FBI from the California focused CBI never worked as well and the end of the overarching ‘Red John’ plot was also another problem for the show-at least it hasn’t been given the sudden heave ho!
