Countdown special a hit for ABC
Ratings: Countdown returned to Sunday glory, winning its timeslot. But the night goes to Seven.

Countdown returned to the top of the charts on Sunday nights once again, with the first of 2 specials winning its timeslot at 965,000 viewers for the ABC. Part 2 follows next Sunday looking at the 1980s.
It was a night of cricket on Nine but Seven won the night, with Sunday Night with the biggest audience of the night.
Seven network was 28.1% then Nine 26.7%, TEN 19.9%, ABC 19.2% and SBS 6.0%.
Sunday Night (1.13m) topped the night for Seven then Seven News (1.13m), Surveillance Oz (879,000), The Big Adventure (478,000). Resurrection was 304,000. Castle was 178,000.
Nine News was 1.07m for Nine then One Day Cricket (815,000 / 790,000).
Modern Family (685,000 / 633,000) was best for TEN followed by NCIS: New Orleans (610,000), Scorpion (521,000), Graham Norton (410,000), TEN Eyewitness News (403,000) and Bondi Rescue (257,000).
Following Countdown (965,000) for ABC were ABC News (817,000), Cilla (775,000) and Compass (367,000). Parer’s War repeat was 204,000.
Treasures of Ancient Rome (260,000) led SBS ONE then Tale of Two Thieves (211,000), SBS World News (153,000) and The Rise of Isis (119,000).
The Big Bang Theory on GO! topped multichannels at 314,000.

What a fantastic surprise to have both real royalty (Prince Charles) and pop royalty (Bjorn from ABBA) participate in this program. Loved every minute of it! 🙂
The Countdown special was superb! Totally forgot The Big Adventure was on (given up marketing it, 7?) so will have to catch it on line.

What a character he was – larger than life.
The line from the classic Acca Dacca song ,TNT :
“Lock up your daughters, lock up your wife”, definitely applied to Bon.
Hope they put it out on DVD … coz I missed it!
No Gotham in Adelaide. We had an ad break followed by the cricket commentators talking to 8.30pm (so they can then show rated M) then we had James Bond.
The Countdown special was the only show I watched last night. Nothing else of interest was on. Angela, I was thinking the same thing – Bon Scott, too.
@Pete: Seven revealed at the end of The Big Adventure last night that the remaining episodes would be shown next Sunday night and Monday night.
@hotgoat: I read that a new episode of Gotham was shown in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth last night.
So, was Tomorrow Never Dies coded separately or is it simple part of the numbers for the Cricket?
As for the Cricket, pretty poor effort from the Aussies.
Loved the Countdown special – a real trip down memory lane.
Sad that so many of those Countdown “regulars” back then are no longer with us – Shirley Strahan, Marc Hunter, Ted Mulry, Doc Neeson, Chrissie Amphlett, Harvey James from Sherbet, Christie Allan,Edith Bliss, Michael Hutchence and, Daryl Cotton are just a few.
Nine lost the night because the cricket finished early, and then they go and play a James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies in Victoria, not sure of what was on in other states. I don’t why they would stop playing them on Saturday, it is just typical of nine not to finish them on that night with only 4 left.
Improvement for Ncis:no I’m sure its only been in mid 400ks so its on the rise. Really enjoyed countdown special.
Don’t be surprised if Seven doesn’t screen The Big Adventure next Sunday night and leaves the remaining two episodes for the upcoming non ratings. A very expensive failed show that won’t be back next year.
