Randy Jackson (finally) quits American Idol

2014-11-14_0156Yo dawg. Randy Jackson is done with American Idol.

Jackson, who spent 12 seasons as a judge and 1 as a mentor, is departing the FOX talent quest.

“After 13 seasons, I felt now was the perfect time to leave American Idol,” Jackson said in a statement to to Deadline,. “I’m proud to have been a part of a series that discovered some incredible artists and will go down in history as one of the most successful television shows ever. A true original, Idol started it all. Onto what’s next.”

His departure leaves Ryan Seacrest as the only remaining key member of Idol‘s original team.

Net season sees the return of Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. with a mentor to be announced. There is speculation Adam Lambert could fill the role.

“Randy has been such an integral part of American Idol since day one, both as a judge and as a mentor. He’s provided great advice and support, shaping the success of so many Idols we have discovered over the years,” FOX and American Idol producers FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment said in a statement.

“We wish him all the best in his next chapter. Randy will always be part of our Idol family, and we hope he’ll visit from time to time.”

  1. I hate how so many people mention “with Randy gone, Ryan Seacrest is the only original member left”… The show has been on for 14 years…. Duh!

    Not many people stay in the same job for more than 3 or 4 these days. I mean look at the judges on every other one of these shows. The Voice can’t keep the same line up of judges for even one year.
