Nine will pit contestants from The Block against contestants from House Rules in a new renovation series, Renovation Rumble in 2015.
The series, to be produced by Julian Cress and David Barbour, is one of two new formats on Nine’s 2015 schedule.
Seven CEO Tim Worner revealed the show at the Screen Forever conference in Melbourne today.
2015 will be a big year of renovation on Free to Air TV including 2 x House Rules, 2 x The Block and Restaurant Revolution.

I think bella might be onto something. The Block: renovation rumble makes more sense than a 3rd renovation reality show.
This is now bizarre. The industry is now a working parody of itself – complete with shrinking audiences.
The only renovation that can save this industry is one where the current execs are renovated out and replaced with people prepared to take risks, spend money.
They’d simply be better off turning the transmitters off now…
Bring it on Tim!
And while you’re at it can we have the Big Celebrity Splash Adventure on 7 next year?
Very confused as to what this will entail. Doesn’t seem like Nine would want to draw any attention to the existence of a competing show on an competing network.
If it’s being done by Julian Cress then it seems likely to be one of the two seasons of The Block. I don’t see how he would have time to do anything else.
Am I missing something or is 9 airing three renovation shows next year, plus other stupid shows, if so there is not going to be enough weeks in a year to show them all unless they have them 7 nights a week all night long instead of 5 or 6 nights for several hours, and if they keep approx. 17 repeats of TBBT as well, surely the viewers are going to get so fed up they will just switch off 9 all together, it seems that this is what 9 wants to happen, don’t they ever look into the future of TV or just have tunnel vision for a short time.
Yawn.
Same old poo
Expect product placements galore on this offering.
Ladies and Gentle we have hit the bottom of the barrel
Excellent, bring on more of these in order saturate the market with these junky shows so they lose viewing audiences and Channel 9 will finally have to produce something that isn’t renovation or “big” (bang and brother) related.
Can we expect – Coming up 2016 – X Idol Voice! Previous favourites of X Factor, Australian Idol and The Voice Kids battle it out to once and for all find the ultimate singing sensation!
Crazy theory but what if this new parthership between 7 & 9 is in retaliation between the Fox & 10 parthership over Googlebox??
So is this a third renovation show on Nine? Or will Renovation Rumble be the name of a series of The Block eg. The Block: Renovation Rumble? I presume this maybe the show that Darren and Dee from The Block maybe on.
Wow another block of programmes that I will not watch. Hopefully the public will tire of these reality shows shortly. One per year you can take but two of each…….get real.
Books are looking more promising than anything I have yet to see on 7 or 9
A third renovation reality show on Channel Nine in 2015? You gotta be kidding.
Kinda like “Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman”, hey?
I think I have watched no more than 2hrs of Channel Nine this year (I’m not kidding). Next year I can see this lowering further.
Another reality show to steer clear of. Commercial TV is clearly becoming a no-go zone from 7.30 onwards on just about any weeknight, and weekends aren’t a lot better.
Oh god another bloody renovation show.
All I want for Christmas is a promise that people will finally get sick of these shows in 2015.
Yes, why is Seven announcing this when it benefits Nine? I’m guessing there was a sum exchange for this, but I still don’t understand why this is happening.
Tim Worner announced a channel 9 show?
My understanding is Seven and Nine have not co-operated. Nine has strategically signed up former House Rules contestants, clearly out of any contract.
I thought the only time 7 and 9 co-operated was during the occasional telethon?
Lord help me. It’s saturation of the genre. I’m surprised House Rules contestants agreed to the idea, knowing it’s coming from Channel 9 and would want to protect their own Blockheads… we all know how things can be edited on reality TV, especially someone who’s actually been a part of it once before…
Why? Don’t want to watch 2 hours of the same old reality every night.
So there are no less then 6 renovation programs next year (
This series, if promoted and most importantly, casted right (i.e. the House Rules contestants are people’s favorites (e.g. series winners), not ones of Nine’s picking) could potentially be the hit of 2015.
The two big reno franchises facing off in a all star fight to the finish: it’s the stuff dreams are made of.
I dont watch these shows, so maybe I dont understand this – but curious why Channel 7 CEO is annoucing Ch 9 shows?
