A cameraman’s car was crashed into an LPG tank at a United Service in Dunoon, sparking a gas leak.

It followed police attending a Noosa Heads home at about 4.30am. But police lost track of the man on motorbike, but at about 6am they were called to a nearby service station after the man allegedly crashed into a tanker.

Seven cameraman Pete Steer, on his way to the stand-off, was flagged down by a man on a motorbike.

He told Sunrise the man chatted before the suspect allegedly stole his keys and made off in the vehicle.

“He said, ‘I’ve got a story for you,’ and I said ‘Mate you better hurry because I’m going to a shooting.’

“Then he said, ‘Mate, I’m the shooter.'”

He reportedly handed the gun to the cameraman, agreeing to “tell his story.” But as Steer phoned police the man allegedly took off with the car.

“I should have locked the car up. The next he went from being Mr. Nice Guy to someone who was going to take my car.

“He picked up the pistol and pointed it at me and climbed into the driver’s seat.”

carjackerA woman injured at the home has been taken to hospital.

A 400m exclusion zone has been set up around the service station as emergency services deal with the leak and residents have been asked to avoid the area.

There are conflicting reports as to whether a gun used was a replica.
