Seven wins ratings week by a nose

Ratings: Nine wins primary channels and demos, but multichannels help Seven to cross the line first.

2014-11-09_2047Sport was the big drawcard last week with the Melbourne Cup pulling 2.18m viewers for the Race won by Protectionist.

Despite it being outside primetime Seven still won the week.

Network:
Seven: 29.2
Nine: 28.7
ABC: 18.8
TEN: 17.9
SBS: 5.3

But interestingly, Nine landed ahead of its key rival in primary channel share.

Primary channel:
Nine: 19.4
Seven: 19.2
ABC: 13.6
TEN: 11.8
SBS ONE: 4.2

That meant Seven’s multichannels helped it cross the finish line.

7mate: 4.2
GEM: 4.2
ELEVEN: 3.3
ABC2: 3.2
ONE: 2.8
ABC News 24: 1.2
SBS 2: 1.0
ABC3: 0.8

Seven’s other brands were Seven News (Sun: 1.00m), Better Homes and Gardens (907,000) and Border Security (905,000).

60 Minutes (1.18m) was best for Nine then Nine News (Sun: 1.12m) and The Big Bang Theory (1.12m).

ABC News (Sun: 862,000) led ABC’s week followed by Australian Story (859,000) and New Tricks (822,000).

Modern Family (719,000), NCIS (711,000) and Territory Cops (621,000) were best on TEN.

Greeks Romans Vikings: The Founders of Europe was again tops on SBS ONE at 319,000 followed by What’s the Catch? with Matthew Evans (318,000) and Insight (295,000).

Nine won key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven ranked first on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Nine scored on Sunday, Monday and Friday.

Seven took victory in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Nine won Sydney and Melbourne.

Just 3 weeks remain in the 2014 ratings year.
