Golden Globe Awards 2015: nominees

Fargo, True Detective, The Good Wife amongst the Golden Globe nominees.

2014-12-12_0055Nominees have been announced for the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards.

Fargo and True Detective were the top two shows, with five and four nominations, respectively.

Both Amazon’s Transparent and the CW’s Jane the Virgin broke through in the comedy categories.

There were good showings by The Affair, Jane the Virgin, and The Missing, including for Aussie Frances O’Connor.

The telemovie / miniseries category is bursting with worthy contenders including Fargo‘s Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton, True Detective‘s Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, plus Mark Ruffalo from The Normal Heart.

But Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory were completely shut out this year, as was 2014 darling Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on Jan. 12th.

  1. Loved Allison Tolman in Fargo and she would be a very deserving winner but I think that either the wonderful Ms Gyllenhaal or the exquisite Ms Lange will get the guernsey.

  2. I haven’t seen those shows that Maggie or Frances feature in so can’t comment on their performances.
I’m sure they’re really good though.
Frances O’Connor is also excellent in anything she’s in – have yet to catch up with the Missing.
Should be a tight race for the gong as all the female nominess are top class.

  3. Really hope Allison Tolman picks up the award for best actress in a miniseries.
She has been overlooked so far in other major award events.
She was exceptional in Fargo and thoroughly deserves it.

I fear she will lose again to Jessica Lange though.
Jess is continually magnificent in American Horror but she already has a swathe of awards and I’m sure she wouldn’t mind giving one up to the delightful Ms Tolman.
Hope Cathy Bates gets best supporting actress for Freak Show – she is also outstanding as the downtrodden bearded lady in this.

    1. Allison Tolman was fantastic in Fargo, but Maggie Gyllenhaal pips her in my view (yet to see Frances McDormand). Surprised to see Globes have renamed BBC’s The Honorable Woman with US spelling given they are the Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. Tsk tsk.

  4. The problem I often find is, you can tell those nominating go for a particular set of shows on particular networks. So these things get predictable and boring.

  5. I prefer the GGs to the Emmy’s because they don’t nominate the same old overrated garbage (Mad Men) every year.
Good to see Good Wife and Viola Davis from HTGAWM getting some recognition

  6. Polishing my crystal ball:

My money’s on House of Cards for best drama series. The writing was exceptional, even if the production qualities weren’t as good as shows like GoT.

I predict Orange is the New Black will get best comedy.

Fargo for best mini-series (narrowly beating out True Detective). Allison Tolman to win best actress, and Matthew McConaughey best actor. Lay your bets…

  7. Julia Roberts was robbed!! How Allison Janney is nominated for Mom – I can’t understand it – it’s terrible. That’s based on her as an actor rather than the actual performance.

  8. Ok. Where do I start? From the top I guess.
Game Of Thrones for best Drama. However how Sons Of Anarchy, The Walking Dead, Orphan Black and particularly Ray Donovan missed out I have no idea… That Downton Abbey again! Taking up valuable space…
Claire Danes is marvellous again in Homeland, even when the show dipped, she was/is still compelling to watch.
Liev Schreiber’s performance is a thing of understated beauty, please let him win! Although the flashier James Spader and Kevin Spacey will duke it out I reckon.
I’m stoked that the Big Bang Theory didn’t get a nod for anything this year. It does what a comedy should never do, and that is not be funny at all, and has gotten away with it for a long time.
Edie Falco has been completely despicable this season in particular of Nurse Jackie, yet I find myself still rooting for her, she’s just that good in the role. But I will…
