Please Like Me on EW’s best of 2014

For the second year running, Josh Thomas' comedy has made Entertainment Weekly's annual list.

2014-08-06_2307Please Like Me has made the list of Entertainment Weekly‘s 10 Best TV Shows of 2014.

It’s the second year in a row the show has made the cut.

Josh Thomas even ranked higher than Game of Thrones and Mad Men, with Transparent landing at #1.

Here’s what they said:

This Australian comedy is the perfect coming-of-age story for people who’ll never grow up. And that’s still true in its wickedly funny second season, which finds 26-year-old Josh (Josh Thomas) and his friends working through post-collegiate angst by drawing tattoos on a baby and cracking jokes about maxi pads. But when Josh’s mom (Debra Lawrance) lands back in the psychiatric hospital, it also becomes a surprisingly thought-provoking drama about mental illness. The episode where Josh confronts his mother about her suicide attempt features a particularly gutting conversation about depression. By the end of it, she’s laughing and crying at the same time. You will be too.

  1. I think what I like about this show, is where movies and TV just seem so hyped up these days with big music, big grabs, big drama, this show manages to be gentle yet tackle some real life sensitive subjects. it’s a joy to watch, even while doing a tough subject like suicide. The balance of seriousness and humour in every episode is spot on.

  2. It got the recognition it deserved. A waste of time show that 99.9% of the population didn’t waste there time watching despite the constant promotion on this site and at the SMH.

    1. Agree it is very good recognition.

It had no promotion on this site. It was covered in editorial along with hundreds of other shows. Some get mentioned more than others for a multitude of reasons, but that doesn’t qualify as Promotion. If you check the cloud tag you can see Nine News, Seven News, MasterChef lead the posts race with PLM nowhere to be seen. That said, site readers did vote it best comedy of 2013 alongside Upper Middle Bogan.

  3. They also had the new transgender comedy ‘Transparent’ starring Jeffrey Tambor as #1 over Game of thrones and Fargo. True detective was also off the list
