In Louis Theroux’s LA Stories, Louis continues his diverse exploration of life in America. This time he looks at LA’s problem with neglected and feral dogs; the experiences of patients with life-threatening conditions at the city’s most famous hospital; and examines how California deals with sex offenders after they are released from prison.

Los Angeles has a horrible problem with its dogs. In the run-down south of the city, hundreds of feral and often dangerous dogs roam the streets or suffer cruel mistreatment in chaotic homes. Louis joins the dog catchers from the city’s biggest pound as they enter some of the roughest districts to capture or seize these dogs.

Thousands are euthanased each year, while others are put up for rescue or adoption. In a metaphor of a divided city Louis meets the well-meaning middle classes who try to provide a home for these often-troubled creatures and the trainers who see if you really can take the ghetto out of the dog when you take the dog out of the ghetto.
